Just thought I would post a few pictures of a technique from someone who I regard as the master of Seoi-nage, Mr Hidetoshi Nakanishi. These pictures demonstrate what to do if your opponent has conrol of your sleeve to stop you inserting your arm for Seoi-nage. We have worked on this today and feel its a very effective way of working when mybe you cannot break off your opponents grip – just adapt your judo to cope with it. The core principles of Kuzushi though still remain a key factor and would be made by stepping backwards and using your body to create the movement and to ensure Uke’s arms are fully extended firstly.
