Friday 07th November 08 – Agility Ladder Training

Today we worked on Agility Training. Agility is the ability to change the direction of the body in an efficient and effective manner and to achieve this you require a combination of:

  • Balance
  • Speed
  • Strength
  • Co-Ordination

How do we aim to improve our agility?

We can improve our agility by improving the component parts of agility (listed above) and practicing the movements in training. In Judo, the body is constantly asked to perform movements from unfamiliar joint angles. The main objective for agility ladder programs is to promote a wide range of different foot and movement patterns. These skilled movements become second nature once trained and the body is able to respond quickly to various angles that are required in Judo.

We can improve our agility by practicing the movements in training with the use of the agility ladder . When beginning the agility ladder program we started with 4 drills and once we have mastered these then we can introduce new drills. I will try and post a video next week of these drills in action.
